Northwest Iowa Community College Catalog 2016–2017 Pre-Professional Human Services This program will equip you with the skills required to serve clients in a variety of public outreach organizations. Human services graduates work alongside social workers, detectives, doctors, and other specialists who help individuals tackle major challenges in their lives. Many human services programs provide intervention for citizens with substance abuse problems or victims of crime or violence. It is important that you contact the college or university to which you anticipate articulating credits to assure that core courses will articulate appropriately into your major. The objective of this program is to prepare you to transfer to another institution to obtain a Baccalaureate degree. Pre-Professional History This program will focus on general study and interpretation of the past, including the gathering, recording, synthesizing, and criticizing of evidence and theories about the past. You will develop abilities in writing and evaluation so you can comprehend, compare, and criticize arguments and ideas. You will use your analytical skills to see beyond the surface of issues to better understand their significance. You may choose careers in education, law, government or find jobs in related areas such as foundation work, management of local history, and fundraising.
