75 Hour Certified Nurse Aide (CNA)

This course is 75 hours in length and meets the requirements for taking the Nursing Assistant Certification Exam which qualifies personnel to work as a nursing assistant in Long-Term Care. The purpose of the course is to develop the basic skills to care for elderly. This course consists of 30 hours of lecture, 30 hours of clinical and 15 hours of simulated lab time. This course offers 3 hours of college credit. Fee includes the tuition, textbook, materials, and State Competency testing fees. Need-based tuition assistance is available.

Uniform/scrubs, white shoes, and a watch with a second hand are required for the clinical portion of the course. State competency testing is scheduled several times each month. Appointments are scheduled on a first come, first serve basis.

CRIMINAL BACKGROUND CHECKS As of July 1, 2010, criminal background checks will be required on each student enrolling in the certified nurse aide course. The criminal background checks will be completed on the first night of class during the orientation period.?Criminal convictions or documented history of abuse may prevent students from participating in the clinical education experience. Students unable to participate in clinical education will be unable to complete the course requirements.?The Department of Inspections and Appeals (DIA) regulations can be found on their website.

Northwest Iowa Community College is an approved Provider #23 of continuing education by the Iowa Board of Nursing. All other health professionals may submit the course CEU/CEH certificate of completion to their respective boards for continuing education credit.
