Northwest Iowa Community College and Iowa Western Community College in Council Bluffs have teamed up to offer the EMT course in an on-line version. The students will be required to attend 5 all day Saturday sessions in order to complete the required skills practice &?competencies. The orientation class will be held on January 16 starting at 6:00 pm. The course is scheduled to conclude in May 2017, followed by National Registry Practical and computer-based testing. This course will cover the 2011 Scope of Practice changes. Modules presented include: Preparation of the EMT, Airway Management, Patient Assessment, Medical Behavioral Emergencies, OB/GYN, Trauma, Infants & Children, Ambulance Operations & additional skils. Clinical time at an emergency room is required in addition to the classroom hours. College credit is available. Minimum of 6 in the class required. Prerequisites: Must be 17 years old at the start of class, be proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English, & physically capable of performing basic EMT?skills. The student MUST?have access to high-speed internet at their residence to take this course. Please bring your calendar to the orientation session in order to map out a schedule that will work for the Saturday sessions. The student must bring a credit or debit card the first night for completion of the on-line background check.
