NCC Fall 2018 Enrollment the Largest in School History

Enrollments at Northwest Iowa Community College are up for the fall of 2018 as compared to fall of 2017 and in fact, the school’s 52 year history. The final numbers for the fall are 1,747 students which is an increase of 6% over last fall’s enrollment of 1,646. This also represents about a 95% overall increase in enrollments since fall of 2000 in which NCC had 897 students.

Dr. John Hartog, Vice President – Student & Academic Services, commented on the record enrollments, “More and more people are realizing that students who choose NCC will find their pathway to success. With hard work, NCC students complete degrees that prepare them for high-demand careers offering fulfilling employment and good wage-earning potential. As we plan for the future, we are very excited as a campus community to offer expanded programming and partnerships because of the passage of the general obligation bond last April. The future of NCC and Northwest Iowa is very bright!”

One reason for the increase is the launch of a new program: Web and Graphic Design. Combining artistic skills with the latest technology, the Associate of Applied Science degree in Web and Graphic Design will help students launch their career in the fast-growing field of web design and digital graphics. This program will prepare students to design and manage a web presence including web page and digital image design. In addition to the AAS degree, students can also earn a one-year diploma or choose from a number of certificate options.

Holly DeGrote, Title III Grant Activity Director/Academic Program Director, stated, “14 students began our online program in Fall 2018. NCC also has partnered with area high schools to offer these courses to high school students for college credit. For example, we’ve partnered with MOC-Floyd Valley’s School District to offer graphic design courses to high school students at NCC’s Career Academy in Orange City. We currently have 6 students taking a Digital Imaging class through this partnership. In the future, we hope more high school students from the district and from other high schools will participate in this learning opportunity.”
