Field Trip To Minneapolis on April 25-26, 2019

As shown in the accompanying photographs, the NCC contingent  included 11 Business students along with 2 Business Department Instructors (Janet Boone and Sheila Drenkow).
The first educational stop included an informative on-site presentation about the Mall of America in Bloomington, Minnesota. The topics included a brief history, target markets and consumer demographics, new stores and retail turnover, the business/marketing aspects that go into maintaining MOA’s success, and the past, present, and future enhancements to MOA. Since opening its doors in 1992, Mall of America® has revolutionized the shopping experience of tens of millions of visitors a year. Mall of America hosts more than 400 events a year, ranging from concerts, to celebrity appearances and fashion shows. Each year, 40 million people from around the world visit the mall, generating nearly $2 billion each year in economic impact for the state. A leader in retail, entertainment and attractions, Mall of America is one of the top tourist destinations in the country and is known around the world.

An additional travel highlight was the interactive team-building activity The Escape Game in the Mall of America—a thrilling real-life escape room adventure. While our two NCC teams were locked in, it was indeed a challenging 60 minutes in which math skills, group communication dynamics, keen observations, and the occasional clue from the control room were integral in attempting to crack the codes and solve the puzzle. Another highpoint was a fine dining experience at the MOA’s Rain Forest Cafe. The final stretch of the Business Club excursion included an impressive guided tour of the Federal Reserve Bank of Minneapolis. A “wealth” of information was discovered and it was an enRICHing experience for all participants! Great lessons in teamwork and event planning were learned as this Business Club journey was a student-led activity from start to finish.
