September 17 is Constitution Day and Citizenship Day. This day commemorates the September 17, 1787, signing of the United States Constitution. The U.S. Department of Education has responsibility for implementing the Constitution Day legislated mandates. Among these is the requirement for educational institutions, like NCC, that receive federal funds to hold an educational program on United States Constitution Day (September 17) of each year (or sometime in the preceding or following week if the date falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or holiday).

On Monday, September 19, a very special visitor will be coming to the LLRC: “President Abraham Lincoln.” Well, someone who will dress and act like President Lincoln! NCC will meet our Constitution Day federal obligation and educate our entire campus community—employees and students—with a very special “impersonator” who will speak to us as if he were President Abraham Lincoln. “President Lincoln” will provide a campus-wide presentation about the “ever-evolving perspectives on the subjects of slavery, emancipation, and equality”. This is a chance for our students and staff to learn more about the history of our country in a format that is entertaining, as well as educational.

We have scheduled this event from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm in the LLRC for all students, faculty, and staff. The LLRC will be closed for workouts during this time to provide a great experience for both our esteemed guest and our campus community in the audience.

It isn’t every day that “President Lincoln” comes to northwest Iowa! We are excited about this entertaining and educational experience – we apologize for any inconvenience it causes our members.
