Many of us have admired lovely, formal gardens, but have been scared off from gardening ourselves because we feel we don’t have that level of expertise. In this class you will be shown how to enjoy a beautiful garden, without a lot of structure or expense, working with nature and making it an expression of the gardener. Participants should wear outdoor clothes and shoes, suitable for the weather. This class will be on Thursday, July 25 from 6:00-8:00 PM at the Eaten Farm, 2773 Jefferson Avenue, Boyden, IA. Tuition: $19.
Darla Eaten will be the instructor. Darla grew up with gardening, enjoying the fresh produce. Her grandparents on both sides of the family were wonderful gardeners. More than a hobby, her own garden fed her five children while they were growing up. During the last 8 years, she and her husband have extended their love of gardening into a produce farm, “Good Eetens,” selling their fresh produce at local Farmers Markets. Her husband is the “brains” in the operation, inspiring Darla to try new ideas, while she jokes that she is the “brawn.” Gardening has always been her favorite pastime.
