Gretchen Bartelson, Dean – Center for Teaching & Learning/ICCOC, Sibley, IA
a dedicated leader of Northwest Iowa Community College will be retiring on Wednesday, June 30, 2021.
Bartelson has served in a variety of roles during her tenure at NCC beginning as an Continuing Education Instructor 1991-1999; part-time Adjunct Instructor 1992-present; full-time Grant Coordinator 1999-2004; Distance Learning Director, 2004-2007; and was named the Distance Learning Dean, 2007-present.
Bartelson has distinguished herself in the areas of online education, learner analytics, concurrent enrollment, grant writing, public speaking, and academic leadership.
She has assisted the college in writing the 2004 and 2014 Higher Learning Commission Accreditation self-studies, standards for NACEP accreditation, and more than $10 million in successful grants.
In 2000, Bartelson taught the first online course for NCC and saw the vision for the future of teaching and learning for the 21st century. As a member of the Iowa Community College Online Consortium (ICCOC) Oversight Committee since 2001 and Lead Faculty Trainer from 2001-2008, she has helped shape the development of the consortium from the original 11 courses with 272 students to more than 25,000 online enrollments in May 2021.
