The City of Wall Lake currently is requesting applications for an electric apprentice who is interested in becoming a Line Maintainer. Wall Lake recently upgraded and buried the primary distribution conductor in our distribution system. We are planning to rebuild our secondary conductor as time allows. This opportunity would afford the right applicant a chance to learn from Chris Lawler our current Electric Lineman while finishing the distribution system rebuild. The position requires the ability to learn the basic knowledge of practices, methods, equipment, and tools used to maintain and repair an electrical distribution system. Graduation from an accredited vocation school or equal experience is a positive but not required. Duties include but are not limited to; installation of metering equipment at customer site, installing, maintaining and repairing customer services which will include responding to outage reports, tree trimming, street lighting repair, and some high voltage troubleshooting. Applicant must have or have the ability to attain at minimum a Class B CDL and must be able to handle the physical demands of the job such as bending, kneeling, standing for extended periods, and working in all types of weather. Job will require the ability to respond to outages on an on-call basis. Applicant will be subject to a pre-employment physical and drug and alcohol testing. On the job training with Chris and Safety Training with Iowa Association of Municipal Utilities will be provided at no cost to the applicant.
