As BIM Coordinator at Interstates, you will play a crucial role in integrating Building Information Modeling (BIM) processes and technologies into our projects. You will be responsible for coordinating BIM activities, facilitating collaboration among project stakeholders, and ensuring the accurate representation of entire facilities within a digital model. Your expertise will provide the coordination necessary for design of electrical systems in a 3D digital environment.

  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, designers, field leaders, vendors, contractors, and clients to establish BIM project goals and requirements.
  • Develop and implement BIM execution plans for electrical projects, ensuring adherence to internal and industry standards and best practices.
  • Create and maintain 3D BIM models of electrical systems using software such as Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD MEP, Navisworks, ACC, or similar tools including point clouds from 3D scanning equipment.
  • Incorporate accurate electrical design elements, including conduits, cables, panels, and fixtures, into the digital model.
  • Review and validate BIM models to ensure compliance with project specifications and design intent.
  • Ensure model health and reliability throughout all phases of the project by proactively scanning for bugs, issues, and appropriate backups.
  • Facilitate regular coordination meetings with internal and external teams to resolve clashes, conflicts, and coordination issues in the BIM model.
  • Collaborate with other BIM coordinators (mechanical, structural, architectural) to integrate various systems, share project information, and ensure overall project integrity.
  • Perform clash detection analysis to identify and resolve clashes between different building systems, minimizing conflicts before construction.
  • Review and verify the accuracy and completeness of BIM models, ensuring they align with construction documentation.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date BIM documentation, including model versions, markups, and change logs.
    Provide training and guidance to project team members on BIM workflows, standards, and tools.
  • Assist in resolving technical issues related to BIM software and processes.
  • Stay up-to-date with industry trends, emerging technologies, and advancements in BIM practices for electrical systems.
  • Identify opportunities to enhance project efficiency, accuracy, and collaboration through BIM innovations.

Education and/or Experience:

Associate’s in Engineering Technology, Design Technology, Civil, Architectural, or related field; BIM Certification or equivalent experience.

Travel Requirements:

Travel will be required and will vary according to business requirements. Generally, travel should not exceed 10% of your time.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Strong proficiency in BIM software such as Autodesk Revit, AutoCAD MEP, Navisworks, etc.
  • Experience in coordinating BIM processes within construction projects.
  • Familiarity with clash detection and resolution processes.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in multidisciplinary teams.
  • Understanding of project life-cycle phases from design through construction and handover.

Work Environment:

Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment but may involve exposure to moderate noise levels from high-speed computer printers and other peripherals. Work involves operation of personal computer equipment for extended periods of time. Occasional travel to various work-sites may also be required, depending on assignment.

Must adhere to the rules of construction while on the construction site.  Hard hat, safety glasses provided by Interstates.
