County Engineering Tech

O’Brien County is searching for an Engineering Technician.  The Engineering Technician will provide assistance and technical support to the department’s engineering design staff.

The duties of the Engineering Technician will include assisting with project design using computer aided drafting systems (CAD software, Civil 3D, Microsoft Word and Excel Software), calculate construction material quantities with cost estimates, perform material testing of construction materials and record results, perform construction inspections, perform topographical surveys using GPS survey equipment on various types of construction projects, keep accurate, organized daily records and construction notes.  Some aspects of the position will be on the job training.

Applicant will be required to obtain or have Iowa DOT certification in Level I HMA, Level I and Level II PCC inspection.

Education requirements are high school diploma, GED equivalent with a minimum two (2) years experience in similar type work. An associate degree in Civil Engineering Technology or related field desired.  Have sufficient knowledge and experience in surveying, computer aided drafting, and construction inspection of road type projects.

Applicant must have a valid Iowa driver’s license, good communications skills, establish good working relationship with coworkers, contractors, and the public.  Some on the job training will be essential for this position.  $33.00 – $34.00 per hour based on qualifications.
