Osceola County


  • Prepare drafts of letters, memoranda, and legal documents, such as pleadings, motions, applications, notices, court documents, etc.
  • Compile, classify, and summarize exhibits for presentation at hearings and/or trial
  • Assist with investigations and preparation for litigation matters, civil and criminal, including but not limited to gathering and reviewing documents to be produced in discovery, coordinating witnesses and parties for interviews, depositions, trials, and hearings
  • Use components of Microsoft Office 365 Business Standard for all tasks such as Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, etc.
  • Organize and maintain, and improve organization and maintenance of, files and records of confidential, complex, or otherwise important instructions and messages, office operations and procedures, and a log of court deadlines and case processing status
  • Obtain legal reference materials and e-file legal documents with the Clerk of Court
  • Assist in coordinating workload, processing, addressing daily concerns, and other duties as needed
  • Serve as first contact for visitors, clients, attorneys, court personnel, law enforcement, and state and local agencies and make every effort to promptly provide requested assistance (whether made in person, telephonically, by mail, by email, or by facsimile) with prior approval from attorney while always maintaining a professional and pleasant demeanor
  • Review documents for compliance with court rules and statutes for public records requests
  • Manage relationships with vendors and service providers, order needed office equipment and supplies, and ensure all items are invoiced and paid on time
  • Provide basic information regarding the status or procedure of criminal cases and answer questions or concerns victims may have, register victims for notification purposes, assist victims with completion of Victim Impact Statements and restitution forms, make referrals for victims to community services, and prepare victims for hearings and depositions they may have to participate in
  • Assist in debt collection as revenue officer for Osceola County ensuring maximum repayment of court debt from enrolled individuals by monitoring court debt, victim restitution, and payment plans; and providing customer service aimed at rehabilitating defendants and helping them satisfy their financial obligations to the court and/or victims


  • High school diploma or equivalency
  • Valid driver’s license and/or government-issued photo identification
  • Pass a pre-employment drug screening


  • Graduation from an accredited Paralegal program
  • Graduation from an Administrative Assistant/Administrative Support Specialist program
  • Experience equal to, or exceeding, two (2) years of full-time work as paralegal or similar support capacity under the supervision of practicing attorney
  • Experience equal to, or exceeding, two (2) years of full-time work as an administrative assistant, administrative support specialist, clerical receptionist, or clerical secretary
  • Experience with Microsoft Office 365 Business Standard applications, Adobe Acrobat Pro DC, PROSECUTORbyKarpel, Iowa Electronic Document Management System (EDMS), Iowa Courts Online, and/or Beacon
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish)

SALARY:                   $42,000.00 – $47,000.00, annually

PAY PERIOD:           Bi-weekly

LOCATION:              Sibley, IA     Osceola County

JOB TYPE:                 Full-time

SCHEDULE:              Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.


  • 1-hour lunch break
  • 5 days of vacation, after 120 days of employment, during first year of employment
  • 4 hours of sick leave accrued biweekly, or up to 13 days of sick leave accrued annually, immediately after start of employment
  • Paid Holidays (up to 92 hours, or 8½ days)
  • Funeral Leave, Emergency Leave, and Voting Leave availability pursuant to Osceola County policy
