STUDENT INTERN: This position allows a student to gain knowledge in the operations of an electrical utility and receive real world experience at a distribution cooperative. Qualified candidates are students either currently enrolled in or a recent graduate of an applicable technical or degree program. In this position, the student will have the opportunity to shadow and work with EILP employees in Member Services, Engineering and Operations departments. The individual will gain hands-on training and experience with various energy programs, Cooperative services, substation operations and line maintenance and repair.

This position is considered an entry level, hourly position with a limited appointment of up to 6 months.

A successful candidate is one eager to work with their hands and outside in various climate and terrain. In addition, the intern will:

  • Develop a working knowledge of energy products and Cooperative service offering.
  • Learn skills in designing, planning and staking of power lines.
  • Assist in the construction, installation, and maintenance of distribution line within our system.
  • Develop a working knowledge of substations, line sections, switching operations, system apparatus and devices.
  • Acquire knowledge to successfully identify energized voltages and work on equipment, conforming with training and safe work practices.
  • Gain experience to operate equipment, climb and work on substation and line structures.

Students should have an interest in pursuing a career with an electric utility upon completion of their education.

Background and pre-employment physical and illegal substance test is required.
