Summary:  Perform a variety of assignments necessitating line worker experience in connection with the construction, maintenance, and operation of the electric transmission and distribution systems.  Fully supports the mission of Waverly Utilities.



·         Works both overhead and underground lines with electric hot line equipment and tools.

·         Responsible for line construction, maintenance, trouble-shooting and emergency work.

·         Climbs poles, installs hardware, connects transformer banks, fuses transformers, pulls wires, lays cable, and other necessary work.

·         Ties in conductors and changes insulators.

·         Works with rubber gloves or hot line tools on overhead and underground electric circuits.

·         Operates overhead and underground construction equipment as needed.

·         Performs tree trimming work and runs chipper as assigned.

·         Maintains time and work records.

·         Performs line work according to all applicable safety rules and regulations.

·         Repairs lines during emergency situations and in adverse weather conditions.

·         Maintains equipment in proper and safe working order.

·         Participates in rotating on-call duty as assigned.

·         Perform other duties as assigned.


Required Skills, Knowledge, and Competencies:

·         Thorough knowledge of the practices, methods, equipment, and tools used in the erection, maintenance, and repair of distribution and transmission electric lines

·         Basic knowledge of electrical theory

·         Thorough knowledge of occupational hazards connected with the work

·         Ability to climb poles and towers and perform all phases of electric transmission and distribution construction and maintenance work

·         Have the strength to perform manual work and the physical stamina to withstand work during adverse weather conditions

·         Graduate from an accredited high school required

·         Graduate of an accredited power line technician school preferred.

·         Possess a valid Class A CDL with air brakes

·         Must be able to communicate effectively with team members, staff, and management

·         Demonstrate good judgment and reliability

·         Be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays as required

·         Residency requirements apply

·         Demonstrate experience and/or physical ability to perform assigned tasks

·         Must attain OSHA crane training certification within 1 year of employment.
