Live Healthy Sheldon, sponsored by Sanford Sheldon, The N’West Iowa Review, and Northwest Iowa Community College will be held at the Lifelong Learning and Recreation Center at NCC and also at the LLRC East location. It is a competition between the teams, and can be a fun competition within the teams as well. This challenge provides participants with a fun opportunity to be active while engaging in a simple and affordable, team-based activity challenge. With the flexible format and friendly team-based approach, participants are motivated by each other and are kept accountable to helping achieve team goals.
The challenge begins on January 22, and runs for ten weeks, ending March 30. If interested, you must have at least one other person on your team, but can have up to nine others on your team, make ten on your team. Anyone is welcome to sign up for the challenge, with the cost of $39 for LLRC members and $59 for non-members. Your team can either focus on minutes of activity, weight loss, or both. There are all kinds of benefits from joining this challenge. You can create a healthy lifestyle, and achieve weight loss goals. There is also a chance of winning some pretty great prizes like t-shirts, water bottles, and punch cards for the LLRC/LLRC East (located by Sanford Hospital in Sheldon).
Greta Giese, Coordinator of the LLRC, is really excited to put on this event. What she really likes about, and considers a great success of the journey, is the fact that it reaches people of all ages and experience levels. There will be educational sessions held during the journey. They provide the participants the resources they need to be successful through the two-month challenge.
The educational sessions include teaching the participants about nutrition, and about strength training safety. Giese also said, “Right now we are planning a fun Saturday event for March 3 that will showcase a variety of fitness classes and styles with our group fitness instructors and personal trainers”, she plans on this day being fun and exciting, and would love to see all participants attending this day.
In the past, there have been many stories of success while taking the challenge of committing to a healthier lifestyle. One couple had completely changed their lives through the challenge, while another individual was able to cut back on medication intake because they were living a healthier life as well. This challenge has some great benefits for individuals and their family members, which may also be their team members.
Giese, like many others, is on a team. She feels it is important to be accountable to herself and her team, and she thinks that the challenge part entices her to do more when it comes to fitness and nutrition. The hopes for the LLRC is that the participants can kick-start a healthier lifestyle, and see what the LLRC and LLRC East have to offer for equipment and group fitness classes. There have been numerous people that have continued their healthy lifestyle choice by becoming members of the LLRC. For more information about LLRC membership, go to nwicc.edu/llrc.
