NCC Phi Theta Kappa Advisors Receive Awards

Northwest Iowa Community College’s Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) chapter was recently notified that two of their advisors were selected as 2023 Outstanding Advisors.

Laura Nachtigal, NCC Executive Assistant and Board Secretary, Little Rock, IA  and a PTK Advisor for 14 years has been selected as a recipient of the Phi Theta Kappa’s 2023 Distinguished Advisor Award. To be eligible for this award, advisors have at least four or more years of service. Recipients are nominated by a PTK chapter member and a college employee and are only eligible to receive this award once.

“It is an honor to receive this distinguished recognition,” said Laura Nachtigal. “I am grateful for the opportunity to serve students as a PTK Advisor and provide them with the tools needed for success; it’s all about leading from where you are.”

Morgan Granstra, NCC Coordinator-Foundation and Alumni Relations, Sheldon, IA and a PTK Advisor since August 2022 has been selected as a recipient of the Phi Theta Kappa’s 2023 Paragon Award for New Advisors. To be eligible for this award, advisors have less than four years of service. Recipients are nominated by a PTK chapter member and a college employee and are only eligible to receive this award once.

“I am honored to have been nominated by our current student members for the Paragon Award for New Advisors,” said Morgan Granstra. “Phi Theta Kappa is not only an honor society, but it provides students with opportunities to get involved in their community, give back to fellow students on campus, and make deeper connections during their time at NCC. I am thankful to be involved in cultivating future leaders in Northwest Iowa, and am honored they took the time to nominate me for this award.”

These awards recognize advisors who make significant contributions to the growth of individual members, serve as the chapter’s advocate on campus and encourage the chapter to be involved on the local, regional and/or international levels of the organization.

Phi Theta Kappa is the premier honor society recognizing the academic achievement of students at associate degree-granting colleges and helping them to grow as scholars and leaders.
