“Scrubs Camp” Registration is Open

NCC is excited to announce the upcoming “Scrubs Camp” for middle and high school students, set to take place on Monday, May 13, 2024, from 8:30am to 2:30pm. This unique event, hosted by NCC’s Health Science programs, aims to introduce 7th-12th graders to various health career fields through an engaging and interactive experience.

During this one-day camp, students will have the opportunity to explore a wide range of healthcare careers including EMS, Paramedic, Nursing, CNA, Radiologic Technology, Pharmacy Technology, Medical Lab Technology, Surgical Technician, Health Information Technology, and Medical Coding. The camp will feature eight mini-sessions led by NCC program instructors. Each session will not only provide an overview of the respective career field and NCC’s program but will also include hands-on activities allowing students to engage directly with professionals from each healthcare career.

A highlight of the day will be an emergency care live action simulation, performed by NCC healthcare instructors alongside the Sheldon Community Ambulance Team (SCAT). This simulation will depict an emergency trauma scenario resulting from texting and driving, involving a vehicle accident. Participants will witness first-hand how healthcare professionals collaborate in real-time, starting from the accident scene managed by SCAT, to the emergency room simulation inside an NCC classroom, utilizing high fidelity manikin simulation technology.

In addition to these immersive experiences, the camp will include a Q&A session, providing valuable insights into the different career fields, their interconnections, and the critical importance of teamwork in healthcare. Kevin Miller, NCC Associate Dean of Health, emphasizes the significance of understanding the collaborative nature of healthcare professions, highlighting the vital role each career plays in patient outcomes and the overall healthcare system management.

Thanks to the Iowa Intermediary Network and local healthcare sponsors, this camp is offered free of charge. However, space is limited, so interested students are encouraged to sign up promptly. To register, visit nwicc.edu/scrubs-camp .
