Presidents Scholarship**

TheNorthwestIowaCommunityCollegePresidentsScholarship is to recognize academic excellence and personal achievement. Primary selection criteria will be the applicants high school academic record. Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • “Graduate from apublicorprivate high school within the last 3 years. Preference given to students in the College district.
  • “Achievea3.25 grade point average based ona4.0 scale.
  • “Maintainaminimum cumulative 3.0 grade point average; eligibility shall be reviewed each semester.
  • “Initialenrollmentmustbeinthefallsemester.Thescholarship is credited toward tuition expenses for each semester/term ofenrollmentnottoexceed24monthsafterinitialenrollment.
  • “Recipientisrequiredtopayfees,purchasebooks,materials, supplies, etc.
  • “Recipient is ineligible for NCCs Foundation Scholarship.
  • “Complete all admission application requirements and be enrolledasafull-time student at NCC.
  • “Must be anewincoming student at NCC.
  • “Submit a350400 word typed essay that follows rules of composition and grammar. The applicant should discuss his/her academic background, other activities, educational andcareerobjectives, and any other factors the applicant believes should be considered.

Foundation Scholarship**

Half Tuition 10 scholarships granted | Full-time students

TheNorthwestIowaCommunityCollegeFoundationScholarship recognizes academic excellence andpersonal achievement. The scholarshipis creditedtoward tuition expenses for each semester. Next Step Scholarship**

The Next Step Scholarship wasestablished for high school students who have obtained college credits from NCC while attending high school. The amount of the scholarship is dependentonthe number of college credits and grade point

Carl H. Rolf Scholarship for Leaders*

Carl H. Rolf served asthe sixth president of NCC from 1990 through 2002. Through his leadership, learning opportunities for students were enhanced. The Carl H. Rolf Scholarship for Leaders recognizes students who possessthe qualitiesthat willprepare them forleadership roles in thefuture. William G. Giddings Scholarship for Leaders*

WilliamG.GiddingsservedaspresidentofNCCfrom2005 through2011. Duringhis tenure as president the College experienced substantial enrollment growth. The purpose of the William G. Giddings Scholarship for Leaders is to recognize students who possess the qualities that will prepare them for leadership roles today and into the future. Highschool students arenoteligibleforthisawardiftheyare dualenrolledinJAorPSEOclasses.Theywillbeeligibleforthis scholarship if they choose to attend NCC asafull-time student in the fall orspring semester after graduation from high school.

Student Government Association/ Foundation Scholarship*

Cleo Klein Memorial Scholarship**

The Cleo Klein Memorial Scholarship wasdeveloped by George Klein in memory of his wife, Cleo. George and Cleo always had apassiontohelpothersgrow,regardlessoftheirlifecircumstances.The Kleins hope that the recipients of this scholarship will consider paying it forward after they complete college and encourage all recipients to do other good deeds upon graduating. Proceeds will be split equally between the fall and spring semestersandcanbeusedfortuition,feesorbooks.Preference will be given to students who areemployed outside of school, whoshowcommunityinvolvement,orvolunteerwork.Preference will also be given to single parents of young children. Applicants must meet the following criteria:

C-S Agrow Service Scholarship

C-S Agrow Service is anagricultural input supply company with offices in Calumet and Granville, Iowa. Dollars for Scholars

NCC is aCollegiate Partner of CitizensScholarship Foundation of America and the Dollars for Scholars family of community scholarship foundations. The student must have received a Dollars for Scholars award from their local Dollars for Scholars chapter. NCC will match that award up to $250 perrecipientwith amaximumof$3,000forallmatchesperacademicyear. NCC has agreed that Dollars for Scholars awards will not adversely affect scholarship funding by NCC.

Eagle Riders Scholarship

The Eagle Riders are Aerie orauxiliary members of Sheldon Eagles 2297whoshareapassionformotorcyclefellowship.This organizationhasahistory of providing charitable aid to community projects.An applicant havingparent or close relative affiliation withEagles willbe givenpreference. Eva D. Stubbe Memorial Scholarship

The Eva D. Stubbe Memorial Scholarship wascreated to celebrate the life of alongtime NCC employee and supporter. In the fall of 1967, Eva decided to further her education and attended night classes at the new community college (now known as NCC). It wasarecommendation from her instructor that led to her hiring in January 1968 asasecretary in Adult Education and later in Administration. While working at NCC, she enrolled invariouseveningcollegecoursestofurtherhereducation.She continuedworkingatNCCuntilsheretiredinJuly1990.Proceeds will be applied to the following semester/s and will be used for tuition, fees, and books. Preference given to anon-traditional student who has acareeraspiration in either the healthcare or business fields. Applicants must meet the following criteria:

 

  • “Bearegistered student in good standing in their first year at NCC.
  • “Attaina2.0 GPAat the end of the first semester at NCC.
  • “Be enrolled in at least 6 credits.
  • “Submitacompleted NCC scholarship application and a paragraphexplainingtheirfuturecareerandpersonalgoals.

 

George & Cleo Klein Fund

The George & Cleo Klein Fund wasdeveloped by George and his wife Cleo after George successfully completed the high schoolequivalencyseriesattheageof74.TheKleinswouldlike toassistothers in their educational pursuits. Proceeds willbe usedfor testing fees for high school equivalency exams. Applicants mustbefinanciallyrestrictedtoaccessthehighschool equivalencytestseriesandarticulatetheir need in aoneparagraph essay. Assistance for the written component canbe obtained through the Learning Center.

Gordon R. Jurrens Memorial Scholarship*

TheGordonR.JurrensMemorialScholarshipwasestablishedby thefamily of Gordon Jurrens to recognize the dedication of a student to succeedinanyprogramatNCC.Gordonvalued technical trainingbecausehisprofessionallife wasbuilt on technicalskills.HestartedasawelderatSudengaIndustries, George,IA,in1958andworkedhiswayuptoshopforeman. In1975,hebecame apartner in Sudenga Industries (now Diversified Technologies, Inc.) and remained anowneruntil 2001 when he retired. Gordon served onthe NCC Foundation Board from 1990 to 1996. Scholarship proceeds will be applied to the spring semester and will be used for tuition, fees, and books.PreferencewillbegiventoGeorge-LittleRockgraduates. Applicants must meet the following criteria:

 

  • “Demonstrateadesire to succeed in the profession.
  • “Demonstrate good work habits asevaluated by the instructional staff.
  • “Maintainagood record of class attendance.
  • “Haveasincere desire to seek employment in Iowa, especially in northwest Iowa.
  • “Submitaparagraph explaining why the applicant chose to enter their particular career field and identify their career goals.

 

HTC Communications Scholarship

2$500 scholarships granted | Full-time students

HTC Communications is abroadband provider with ahistory of quality service in telephone, cable TV, internet and cellular phones, with headquarters in Hospers, Iowa. Their service area coversthe communities of Hospers, Sheldon, Ashton, Sibley, and Ocheyedan. The purpose of these scholarships is to encourage students from their service communities to pursue post-secondary education. Proceeds will be split equally between two semesters of study and will be used for tuition, fees, and/or books. One scholarship will be awarded to astudent enrolled in aVocational/ Technical program at NCC. The other scholarship will be awarded to astudent enrolled in an Associate of Arts/Science college transfer program. Applicants must meet the following criteria:

 

  • “Beacurrent resident of Hospers, Sheldon, Ashton, Sibley, orOcheyedan, Iowa.
  • “Haveahigh school GPAof 2.5 ona4.0 scale.
  • “Maintaina2.5 GPAwhile attending NCC; eligibility will be reviewed each semester.

 

 

Iowa Academic Decathlon Scholarship

Amount: Gold Medalist $300 | Silver Medalist $200 Bronze Medalist $100 | Full-time students

The NCC Foundation Academic Decathlon Scholarship wasestablished to recognize high school students who have experiencedsuccess with the IowaAcademic Decathlon Program and will be enrolling at NCC. Academic Decathlon ScholarshipswillbeawardedtoIowahigh school students who have participated in competition at the state level and received agold, silver orbronze medal medals. In the casewherea student has received multiple awards throughout his her high schoolcareer, total scholarship will not exceed $500. Students must send a copy of their certificate with the scholarship application.

 

 

Iowa State Bank Scholarship

The Iowa State Bank Scholarships werecreated to encourage individuals to pursuepost-secondaryeducationopportunitiesat NCC.Preferencewill be given to Iowa State Bank or Vogel Paint employees or immediatedependents. Proceeds will be split equally between two semesters of study and will be used for tuition,fees,andbooks.Applicantsmustmeetthe following criteria:

 

  • “Be accepted in the Administrative Secretarial, Administrative Office Management, Nursing, Health InformationTechnology,orBusiness Managementprogram.
  • “Be current residents of the College district.
  • “Achieveahighschoolcumulativegradepointaverageof2.5.
  • “Maintaina2.5 minimum cumulative grade point average.
  • “Submitaletter of reference from anappropriate high school instructor, guidance counselor, orcurrent employer. This reference should address the applicants potential for successin the program of enrollment.

 

 

Keith W. Campbell Memorial Scholarship

The Marilyn Menning Accounting Scholarship wasestablished in 2016 by the staff and directors at Citizens State Bank to honor Marilyn for her 50 years of dedicated service at the Bank. Marilynwasamember of the first graduating class of NCC (known then asNorthwest Iowa Vocational School). She received her diploma inAdministrativeSecretarialand Bookkeepingandpromptlybeganemployment at Citizens State Bank after graduating in 1966. The staffanddirectorsofCitizens StateBankwishtorecognizeMarilynthrough the awarding of this scholarship, not only for her 50 year+ commitment to the Bank, but also for her exemplary work ethic, outstanding customer service skills and her positive attitude. Preference will be given to students who originate from the Colleges servicearea. Proceeds will be utilized for the spring semester and canbe used for tuition, fees and books. Applicants must meet the following criteria:

 

  • “Must be aregistered student in good standing at NCC.
  • “Must be enrolled in at least six credits in oneof the following programs: Associate of Arts: Business, Business Diploma, Accounting, Clerical Accounting, Administrative Secretarial,orAdministrativeOfficeManagementprograms.

Mindy Wimmer Witham Overcomer Memorial Scholarship*

ThepurposeoftheMindyWimmerWithamOvercomer MemorialScholarship is to remember the life of Mindy Witham. Mindy grew up in Melvin and graduated from Hartley-Melvin-Sanborn School District. She attended NCC for Administrative Secretarial and upon graduating, began an18-yearcareerin the Admissions Office of the College. She considered her NCC co-workers her second family and had aspecial place in her heart for all things NCC. Mindy wasavery caring individual who foundgreatjoyinbeingwithandcaringforherfriendsandfamily. ThroughMindysmanypersonalhardships,shealwayscontinued to put others first and worked hard to overcome any challenge thatcameher way. Mindy passed away after acourageous battle with cancerin March 2016 and will be remembered for her strong will and desire to overcome whatever obstacle is put in front of her. Scholarship proceeds will be utilized for tuition, fees, and books for the Spring semester. Applicants must meet the following requirements:

 

  • “Be enrolled in aminimum of 6 credits in any of the NCC programs.
  • “Submitanessay, not to exceed one-page, sharing the applicantspersonal story about overcoming atrialor tribulation in his orherownlife,orhow they assisted someoneelse in overcoming ahardship.

 

Multi-Cultural Scholarship

  • “Beafirst-generationcollegestudent(childrenwhoseparentshave not attended college) and amember of arecognized race/ethnic minority.

Pamela R. Kreykes Memorial Scholarship*

The Pamela R. Kreykes Memorial Scholarship wasestablished to honor Pams dedication to student successat NCC. Pam wasemployed at NCC from 1995 to 2004. Before leaving NCC to pursue her Masters Degree, Pam assisted students in achieving their educational goals in her role as Academic SpecialistintheTRIOStudentSupportServicesprogram.Pam not only advised students about the impact education could haveontheir lives, but also modeled it for them by her own path to higher education. She began with an AAfrom NCC, then went onto receive aBAfrom Buena Vista University, and wasnearing completionofherMAattheUniversityofSouth Dakota.Scholarshipproceedsmay be utilized for tuition, fees, and books. Applicants must meet the following criteria:

 

  • “ATRIO Student Support Services program participant in good standing.
  • “Enrolled in aminimum of 6 credits.
  • “Submitanarrative, not to exceed onepage, describing the impact of the TRIO program onthe applicants education, anyco-curricular/communityinvolvement,futureeducation/ careergoals, and how this scholarship would benefit in achieving those goals.

 

Premier Bank Scholarship

The Premier Bank Scholarship recognizes astudent from the Rock Valley, Doon, Rock Rapids, IAor Hudson, SD, areawho is enrolling full time at NCC. Preference for the award will be given in the following order: aPremier Bank employee ortheir child,aPremier Bank customer oraRock Valley, Doon, Rock RapidsorHudsonarearesident. Names of Rock Valley, Doon, Rock Rapids, and Hudson residents who have been accepted at NCC by May 1 will be forwarded to Premier Bank for the purpose of selection.

 

Ron Plum Endowed Scholarship

The Rock Valley Economic Development Corp. Heavy Equipment Scholarshipwasestablishedtoshowappreciationto thepartnershipwith the NCC Heavy Equipment program and its role in preparing properties in Rock Valley for industrial and residential growth. Scholarship proceeds will be utilized for tuition, fees, and books and split between the upcoming fall and spring semesters. Applicants must meet the following requirements:

 

  • “Must exhibit anenthusiasm and proficiency for the Heavy Equipment Operation and Maintenance profession.
  • “Must be entering into the second year of the Heavy Equipment Operation and Maintenance program.

Rodney Anderson Agriculture Scholarship

Substation Technician Scholarship**

Committed to the industry, the Substation Technician Scholarship is available to offer scholarship opportunities to students who wish to pursue acareerin the Powerline industry. A 1983 NCC Powerline graduate established this scholarship and believes in paying it forward. The scholarship will be split equally between the first two semesters of enrollment and will be used for tuition, fees, and books. Applicants must meet the following criteria:

  • “Achieveahigh school grade point average of 2.5 ona4.0 scale.

The Traer Municipal Utilities is amunicipal electric utility serving 1,250 customer-owners in and around Traer, Iowa. The Vollink Trades Scholarship recognizes the instructional accomplishments of Ron Vollink, Carpentry Instructor from 1987 to 1998. Since that time, Rons family members have graduated from various NCC programs and have established successful businesses and careers.This scholarship has evolved to encourage excellence in the carpentry and diesel/trucking industries.
